Workshops in 2024
Our program of one off workshops provide a great opportunity to have fun and learn alongside others in your community to gain a new skill. In 2024, we ran a range of fun, hands-on workshops:
We aim to respond to community demand with the workshops we offer, so if there is something you would like to learn, please let us know and we'll see what you can do!
- Dot Mandala Painting: artist Kerrie introduced participants to the meditative art of dot mandala painting to create a beautiful artwork during the session.
- Macrame Plant Hanger: our tutor Emma showed participants the basic knots that form the backbone of macrame and used them to create stylish plant hangers.
- Mastering the Granny Square Workshop: our tutor Lean taught participants the stitches required to fashion the fundamental crochet building blocks, Granny Squares. With these skills in hand, a world of possibilities for future projects has opened for our participants.
- Coiled Paper Baskets Workshop: our enthusiastic tutor Jenny shared her techniques for recrafting old magazines into fun and stylish baskets and trays, inspiring participants to consider other opportunities for upcycling using everyday waste products from our homes.
- Digital Upskilling Afternoon: participants learnt to get the most out of your smartphone with a fantastic presentation by Lisa Du from Ready Tech Go showing us some nifty ways to use our smartphones in ways that make life easier, such as using Google Translate Conversation mode to communicate with someone who doesn't speak your language, to using digital assistants to use your phone hands-free and using google lens to identify and source items that interest you.
- UV resin workshops: our tutor Elissa taught participants the craft of UV resin pouring to create personalised stylish and functional items such as keychains, bookmarks and pendants to gift to friends or enjoy for themselves.
- Indian Cooking Demonstration: tutor Usha showed participants how to cook a chickpea curry, poori (flatbread), sambal and jeera rice. It was an opportunity to enjoy the dishes at the conclusion of the demonstration and to add these delicious but simple recipes to our repertoire, perfect for wowing vegetarian and meat-eating friends alike.
- Christmas Upcycling: participants learnt to create stylish bespoke paper wreaths and tree decorations by upcycling household materials.
We aim to respond to community demand with the workshops we offer, so if there is something you would like to learn, please let us know and we'll see what you can do!
